Founded in 1980 by Eugene Cadogan and Dr. Bill Linehan, Coolmine Rugby Football Club, located in Ashbrook (Castleknock), Dublin 15, has become a dynamic presence in north-west Dublin’s sporting scene
The club joined the Leinster Branch of the IRFU in 1980 and began competing in the junior leagues in 1981, with their mini-rugby section launching strong from the start.
In 1985, the club purchased its current eight-acre home at Ashbrook. Since then, the facilities have grown significantly: two floodlit playing pitches, a training area, and a modern two-storey clubhouse were officially opened by President Mary Robinson in 1993. A major renovation in 2006 added modern changing rooms, showers, an atrium, committee room, and a viewing balcony. The facility is fully wheelchair accessible and includes a large function room, bar, kitchen, and all-weather pitches available for public hire.
On the pitch, the senior first XV competes in Division 2A (formerly 1B) of the Leinster League, with additional adult teams, an Under-20 squad, and thriving mini, youth, girls, veteran, and special-needs (Coolmine Pumas) sections. The club’s “Drive to ’25” initiative aims to further develop facilities—including a state-of-the-art gym—to help elevate the club to All-Ireland League status by 2025.
All in all, Coolmine RFC is a welcoming, growth-focused club that offers quality rugby and facilities to players of all ages and abilities, deeply rooted in its Dublin 15 community.
